Youth Leadership Program at the Free Black Women’s Library

On May 10, 2023, BwC Legacy’s Youth Leadership program visited with Olaronke Akinmowo and the Free Black Women’s Library, which features more than 5,000 books written by Black women and Black nonbinary authors. The literary hub also hosts workshops, readings, performances, and a monthly reading club. CPCS Middle School student Jahtia Jarvis took advantage of the library’s trade-in policy and picked out a novel to take home. She enjoys writing a lot—especially romance and tragic stories. “I think seeing more female black writers will probably encourage me to write my own book,” Jahtia said.
